Unloaded Open Carry

With the passing of AB 144 in October, 2011, open carry will be generally forbidden beginning January 1, 2012. See Penal Code 26350

There is an exception for unloaded antique firearms, and several location-specific exceptions (principally, those places where it it legal to carry loaded also permit carry unloaded).

After that date, the remainder of this article is retained for historical purposes.

There is an encouraging trend: California Law Enforcement agencies are beginning to retrain their officers to recognize Open Carry as legal.
